Chelsea Hicks
Chelsea Hicks
Chelsea Hicks is the Managing Attorney at Herschensohn Law. She brings a wide range of legal experience to the Herschensohn Law team. Chelsea decided she would become an attorney at a young age, and she’s never looked back. Chelsea graduated from Chapman University magna cum laude with a double major in pre-law and political science and a minor in sociology. She completed a full-time internship with the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C. during her undergraduate studies.
Chelsea graduated from Seattle University School of Law cum laude. During law school, Chelsea completed an internship at Benefits Law Center, a legal nonprofit that assists low-income clients with social security cases. Additionally, Chelsea volunteered weekly at Lambert House, the only teen center in King County serving exclusively LGBTQAI+ youth. She completed her law school career with a full-time externship with the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Sitka, Alaska (her hometown).
Chelsea returned to Alaska after law school and worked in civil legal aid at Alaska Legal Services Corporation in Palmer, Alaska. In addition to her full-time job as a civil legal aid attorney, Chelsea worked on evenings and weekends as a domestic violence advocate at Alaska Family Services, the local domestic violence shelter.
In 2013, Chelsea moved back to Seattle and began working at Northwest Justice Project in Seattle, Washington, where she worked for nearly 12 years as a staff attorney and then a managing attorney. Chelsea started as a staff attorney on a team handling foreclosure defense work where she represented homeowners in judicial foreclosure cases, property tax foreclosures, and real estate contract forfeitures; manufactured homeowners in eviction and replevin cases; and tenants in post-foreclosure eviction cases. She then worked on the Consumer, Housing, Education, and Employment Rights team handling landlord-tenant cases and consumer debt defense cases. In 2019, Chelsea transitioned to a managing attorney role and served as the Managing Attorney of the King County Veterans Project, a team that represents veterans in VA benefits and housing cases; the King County Public Benefits Unit, a team that handles Medicaid and state benefit denials, reductions, and terminations; and the Washington Medical-Legal Partnership, a team that partners with Harborview Medical Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital to address health-harming legal needs. During her career in civil legal aid, Chelsea represented clients in a wide variety of cases, including divorce, custody, landlord-tenant, real property, foreclosure, bankruptcy, probate, consumer, and public benefits.
Chelsea currently serves as the board president of Northwest Education Access, a local nonprofit organization serving young people pursing post-secondary education. In her free time, she enjoys hiking in the Northwest, getting together with friends, and spending quality time with her three nieces.
Chelsea passionately believes that clients and staff should be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. She approaches her work with thorough preparation, an eye for detail, and a genuine love for the practice of law.
